We are proud to offer an extensive faculty of highly qualified and caring teachers. Their educational backgrounds and enthusiasm are only two of the reasons they enjoy such success and popularity. Each of our faculty members has many years of dance education and each participates in continuing education in the field of dance so that you are assured of the finest instruction available. Our faculty members hold degrees, certifications or credit hours in dance education. The majority of our faculty members is or has been performing members of Patchwork Dance Company, which is recognized and supported by Indiana Arts Commission and various foundations. In addition to our excellent in-house faculty, we also offer our students the opportunity to study with various specialty and guest instructors of the highest caliber.
Debbie Werbrouck MDE, director of the school, holds her Master Certification in dance from Chicago National Association of Dance Masters. From 1992-1997 she hired the international faculty for the organization. She has served as Board Member, Education Director, Principal, Vice-president and President of this one hundred-plus year old organization. She has structured and implemented dance classes for area nursery, elementary and secondary school and has developed the curriculum for Academy Arts Preschool. She has served as guest artist for several national dance organizations and private dance schools throughout the Midwest. She has been an adjudicator and choreographer for national scholarship pageants, colleges, civic theaters and high schools. She is founder and Artistic Director of Patchwork Dance Company, Michiana’s only non-profit, regional contemporary adult dance company and its training company, PDC II. Ms. Werbrouck directed Patchwork’s performance tour of England and Scotland in 1992. She arranges the school’s performance tours that have taken students to Walt Disney World in 1994,1997 and 2002, Italy, France and England in 1999, New York City in 2000 and 2006, Italy and France in 2009 and London in 2014. She also served as faculty member of the Department of Communication, Dance and Theatre at Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN from 1992-1994. She currently co-chairs the New York based coalition of dance education organizations, UNITY.
Julie Werbrouck Bodle MDE, assistant director of the school, holds her Master Certification in dance from Chicago National Association of Dance Masters and has served as Board Member, Sergeant-At-Arms, Treasurer, Fifth, Fourth and Third Vice-President. In her five-year term as Principal she was responsible for hiring the national faculty including during the 100th Anniversary. She will hold the three-year term of President beginning in August 2016. Literally “growing up in the studio,” Mrs. Bodle took advantage of the tremendous artistic and educational exposure and has utilized this knowledge in her own dancing and teaching. A member of Patchwork Dance Company since its inception, Julie has been called, “an outstanding performer” by critics. She assisted with Patchwork’s performance tour of England and Scotland, the school performance tours both here and abroad and directs the performing group of the school, the Apple Corps Dancers. She heads the half-time performances of Notre Dame Women’s basketball for both the Irish Superstars and Irish Silver stars. In addition to studio classes, she is Assistant Director of Academy Arts Preschool. Her extensive educational and performance experiences make her a teacher’s teacher.
Lauren Bodle received her formal training at Debbie Werbrouck School of Dance and supplemented that education through workshops and seminars with Chicago National Association of Dance Masters, Anderson University and numerous workshops and residencies. Miss Bodle is currently attending University of South Florida where she has performed in both faculty and student choreography and is presently serving as a visiting guest instructor at DWSD. She was a performing member of Patchwork Dance Company and has enjoyed working with numerous guest teachers. She is working towards completing her CNADM certification. She received the Beverly Miller scholarship in 2011, and the Dance and More merit scholarship from CNADM in 2013.
Liz Coulston recently graduated from Ohio Northern University with her bachelor’s degree in psychology with minors in dance, entrepreneurship, and arts administration. Her prior training and performing experience was with Debbie Werbrouck School of Dance and Patchwork Dance Company with additional study through CNADM Dance and More, Anderson University and numerous nationally recognized guest teachers and choreographers. Most recently, Liz attended the American Dance Festival in North Carolina where she spent seven weeks taking classes with various dance professionals. Currently dancing in Chicago, Liz is a visiting guest instructor.
Samantha Coykendall holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Dance and Business Administration from Alma College where she studied and performed. During her time in college, she taught community out-reach ballet classes for ages 3-17. She presented works in the Alma College Student Choreography Concert from 2013-2015. Her early training was from Elizabeth Williams School of Dance.
Paige DeVreese holds her BS in Elementary Education from Indiana University. She is a faculty member at the Werbrouck School specializing in teaching early childhood and elementary age students. Mrs. DeVreese received her own dance education at the Werbrouck School and also has experience in the area of poms and dance teams. She regularly participates in continuing education and is working towards completing her certification through CNADM.
Denise Honaker, MDE holds her degree from Indiana University. She teaches dance at Penn High School and has been a member of the Werbrouck School faculty since 1993 where she specializes in the school’s Early Childhood Program. Mrs. Honaker received her early training at the Werbrouck School. She is a Master Dance Educator of CNADM and has received recognition through scholarship awards. She has been dancing for more than thirty years and has toured with Patchwork in Chicago.
Kimberly Martz is a graduate of Ball State University and holds her degree in Dance Performance and Education. She served as a substitute teacher for grades K-12 at both River Valley School District and Lakeshore School Corporation in Michigan. She lived and taught dance in Southwestern Michigan for eleven years prior to moving to South Bend and joining the Werbrouck faculty. Mrs. Martz teaches a range of ages and styles of dance and has choreographed for various musicals and dance teams.
Jaci Mullins MDE holds her title of Master Dance Educator from CNADM and has been a member of the Werbrouck faculty since 1996. Mrs. Mullins has choreographed for the Apple Corps and Notre Dame Irish Superstar dancers through the Werbrouck School and regularly contributes choreography to Patchwork Dance Company. She also choreographed for Jimtown High School, St. Joseph’s College, Discovery Middle School Dance/Pom Club and Riley High School. She danced in Walt Disney World, Florida during the summers of 1994 and 1997 and was a faculty member of the 2000 NYC tour.
Lizz Schmucker holds her Masters of Arts in Teaching from Bethel College and currently teaches third grade at Elkhart Community Schools. She received her early dance education from Debbie Werbrouck School of Dance as well as her early dance teacher training and is in her ninth year teaching at the school.
Karen Stump MDE holds her Master Certification in dance from Chicago National Association of Dance Masters and was selected as “Member of the Year” in 2009. Mrs. Stump has worked with numerous choreographers and regularly participates in continuing education. She was an original member of Patchwork Dance Company and continues in her original roll as Great Uncle Mouse. Mrs. Stump has taught at the Werbrouck School since 1980 specializing in both Early Childhood and Adult programs and was also the original faculty for Academy Arts Preschool. She is the director of the Silverstars the senior performance dance group of the school.
Lea Thomas is a member of CNADM as well as a graduate of Western Michigan University with her Bachelor of Arts in Dance as well as Film, Video and Media studies. Growing up in Stevensville, Michigan, she had the opportunity to perform pieces set by Randy Duncan, John Lehrer and Jump Rhythm Jazz Dance Company. Miss Thomas choreographed for several regional and high school productions. Her most recent performances have been with Walt Disney World as The Little Mermaid, Kalamazoo Civic Theatre and Western Michigan University Theatre. Miss Thomas is thrilled to be a part of the teaching team at Debbie Werbrouck’s School of Dance where everyday she shares her passion to dance.
Jenn Wolfe, MDE holds her degree from Indiana University and her Master Dance Educator certification from CNADM. She teaches dance at Penn High School where she also choreographs for the show choir and the musical. She has studied extensively with a range of guest artists and participated in the school performance tour of Europe in 1999. Mrs. Wolfe has taught and choreographed for the Apple Corps dancers and was the original choreographer for the Notre Dame Irish Superstars in addition to regular classes. She is a resident choreographer for Patchwork Dance Company. She was instrumental in coordinating an outreach program with the level three dance class at Penn High School for the opportunity to make an appearance with Patchwork Dance Company at their spring concert.
